Venezuela assures its relationship with Brazil is moving forward with “firm steps”

The Government of Venezuela ratified that the new stage of relations with Brazil is advancing in firm steps after the re-establishment of diplomacy between both countries, indicated the Foreign Minister of that Caribbean nation, Yván Gil, after a telephone contact with his peer Mauro Vieira.

“Excellent conversation with Minister Mauro Vieira, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brazil; this new stage of relations is moving forward with firm steps!” the official detailed in a message through his official Twitter account.

The foreign minister commented on a message published by Brazil’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

He pointed out that in the telephone contact, both representatives hailed the advances in the normalization of bilateral relations and the ongoing negotiations on cooperation and border issues.

Caracas and Brasília resumed their bilateral relations with the return of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to the presidency of the South American giant on January 1 of this year.

Since 2019, relations between the two countries remained tense after then-president Jair Bolsonaro (2019-2022) recognized the oppositionist Juan Guaidó as the “interim president” of Venezuela.

In April 2020, Brazil formally closed its foreign mission in Venezuela after withdrawing its diplomats and officials from the embassy and consulates as part of the hardening of relations with the government of Nicolás Maduro.

However, after the Brazilian president’s victory, the countries resumed bilateral relations.
