Chile’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2022 closed with a year-on-year rise of 2.4% over the previous year, the Central Bank reported.
“During 2022, the national GDP grew by 2.4%, concerning 2021, driven by the growth of domestic demand,” the agency said in a report.
During the first half of 2022, domestic demand was driven by consumption, which slowed down in the second part of the year.
“The result was led by services, particularly personal, business, and transportation services, and in contrast, the production of goods showed a fall, being mining and manufacturing the ones with the highest incidence in this result”, stated the Central Bank.
Commercial activity also declined, consistent with the fall in the consumption of goods.
Investment registered a year-on-year decrease of 0.3%, which was explained by a lower accumulation of inventories.
In foreign trade, exports and imports of goods and services increased, with expansions of 1.4% and 0.9%, respectively.
