‘Bad’ Bolivians who spread ‘false information’ about country’s dollar shortage to be sanctioned

The Bolivian regime, headed by Luis Arce, has proposed this Sunday to sanction those people who speculate or “generate false information” about the shortage of money, which would be causing an unusual demand for foreign currency.

The executive director of the Financial System Supervisory Authority (ASFI), Reynaldo Yujra, has explained that there is an unusual demand originated by rumors spread by social networks and the opinion of economists that would have generated speculation, as he said in the program Las 7 en el 7.

“Unfortunately, there are bad Bolivians who, instead of supporting the country by working and making an effort to contribute to continuing growing, dare to generate these totally unfounded speculations,” he said.

However, Yujra has denied that the financial entity has restricted the operations of this currency since he has ruled out the lack of foreign currency, as 86% of the deposits are in national currency.

“Basically, the financial system operates in local currency. What is being seen is unfounded speculation. Someone is seeing that business can be done with dollars,” he added, noting that the entity is empowered “to initiate criminal proceedings.”

“We will be very severe if there are people who generate false information,” he said, warning that this type of crime has a penalty of between five and ten years “because financial information is very sensitive,” as El Deber newspaper reported.
