New Congressional Oversight Committee benched former Twitter top brass over censorship

Hand in hand with the new Republican leadership in the House of Representatives, the important Oversight and Accountability Committee subpoenaed to testify all former Twitter directors singled out for news censorship and collusion with the FBI.

This Wednesday, February 8, on the sidelines of the opening of the regular sessions of the US Congress, the debut of the Oversight and Accountability Committee under the leadership of the new Republican Speaker of the Lower House, Kevin McCarthy, was unveiled.

Kentucky Rep. James Comer, a Trump ally, was appointed as chairman of this important committee, charged with investigating whether laws passed by Congress are being followed, and he wasted no time.

Comer took advantage of the Republican majority and packed the committee with Trumpist deputies.

Among them, he included Marjorie Taylor Greene and Jim Jordan, the two most right-wing members of Congress.

In addition, he called a first session for the same opening day of the Legislative Branch, summoning the former top management of Twitter to explain censorship in social networks and the suppression of news.

At the hearing, the deputies members of the Committee had an entire 8-hour day to ask questions and put together a report about the possible collusion between former Twitter executives before the acquisition of Elon Musk and the FBI to benefit Joe Biden in the 2020 elections.

The laptop story of Hunter Biden, the president’s son, was mainly discussed.

In October 2020, just one month before the election, multiple media outlets published emails incriminating then-presidential candidate Joe Biden with criminal acts by his son.

Images and videos also incriminated his son for buying hard drugs, paying prostitutes, and posing with an illegally acquired gun.

However, when the New York Post first published the story, it was immediately suspended from Twitter, and the social network blocked all users who posted the link to the story.

The story was completely deleted until after the election.

Today we know that all of this was proven true and was done at the behest of FBI agents loyal to Biden, who were pressuring Twitter executives in emails that Elon Musk leaked after the company’s purchase.

One of the strongest crosses of the day was between Georgia Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene and Yoel Roth, Twitter’s then Director of Trust and Safety, widely identified as the liaison between Twitter and the FBI.

As revealed by Elon Musk, Roth was meeting weekly with FBI agents to review accounts that promoted Trump.

Taylor Greene complained to him that she was suspended during her re-election campaign at the request of FBI agents who answered to the Democratic Party.

Meanwhile, the social network did nothing to combat the dissemination of content related to child pornography.

The congresswoman strongly rebuked Yoel Roth for his incapacity as “director of security and trust” of the social network, accusing him of being more focused on eliminating opposing content than accounts related to child pornography trafficking.

In addition, he revealed a university thesis that the former Twitter official presented when he was a student, defending the participation of minors in dating sites for gay adults, such as “Grindr”.

Greene also recalled that after Elon Musk acquired the social network, around 40,000 accounts related to child pornography were suspended, while under Roth’s administration, Twitter benefited from a case in which content on the social network explicitly showed sex scenes between two minors.

Another of the important moments of the night came when the representative for the state of Florida, Ana Paulina Luna, rebuked all those present for having been complicit with the Democratic campaign of Joe Biden and federal agencies to overshadow the criminal history of her son.

Among the defendants was the aforementioned Yoel Roth, in addition to the former Twitter Chief Legal Officer, Vijaya Gadde, dubbed the “chief censor” in leaked emails, and Jim Baker, a former FBI agent who served as Deputy Chief Legal Officer and was accused by Elon Musk himself of being the voice of the Democratic Party and federal agencies within the company.

Luna showed in his presentation a flowchart that demonstrated how social networks, such as Facebook or Twitter, and different federal agencies communicated through a cloud via a private server called Jira, where the FBI uploaded content that it wanted to be removed, and these companies complied.

While that system was built to be able to quickly content identified as potentially terrorist, since the irruption of Trump on the political scene, the FBI’s requests became to combat “hate speech”, “disinformation,” and news that harmed the Democrats or the political caste.

During the hearing in which Roth was reciprocated for his poor work as Chief Security Officer, Roth was also reminded of the strong political bias held by the company’s employees before Elon Musk’s acquisition.

Questioning Roth, it was recalled that 98% of Twitter employees donated to Democratic candidate campaigns, and that number increased even more (99.7%) in last year’s 2022 midterm elections, including Roth.

Uncharacteristically, when the former security director was asked if he believed he possessed any political bias, he replied that he did not.

This generated laughter among committee members, who quickly acknowledged that in not-so-old tweets, he compared Trump’s ministers to “literally Nazis.”
