Guyana seeks to strengthen its Defense Force with support from India

The South American president is considering acquiring military equipment from the Asian nation, and the two countries have strengthened defense cooperation.

Guyana is considering acquiring military equipment from India as part of the modernization and strengthening of its Defense Force in which it is immersed.

This was stated by the Guyanese President, Mohamed Irfaan Ali, in an interview with the news channel WION, from New Delhi, during his recent visit to the Asian country.

He explained that all options for acquiring new military equipment and material are being explored, including India’s offer.

He added that his government had informed the Indian authorities that it supports the participation of that country in the modernization process of the Guyana Defense Force.

MILITARY COOPERATION

President Ali also noted that Guyana has already begun to increase its military cooperation with India, which includes working more closely on a wide range of activities.

“We have already embarked on closer and more elaborate military cooperation with India. We now have several officers being trained in India,” he emphasized.

He further said that the cooperation also includes the development of an integrated relationship in terms of technology, equipment, and human resources.

Last January, on Ali’s visit to the Hindustan Aeronautics plant, an Indian minister assured that the latter had committed to acquiring two Dornier Do 228 aircraft, as Infodefensa.com reported.
