At the end of last year, President Boric pardoned 12 protesters who were convicted in the framework of the protests of the social outbreak of 2019 and also pardoned a former guerrilla who fought against the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet (1973-1990).

Among those pardoned is a 38-year-old man who was sentenced to seven years and four months in prison for the frustrated homicide of an Investigative Police officer; a 22-year-old man who was serving a seven-year sentence for crimes of damage to public furniture and a 30-year-old man who was sentenced to three years in prison for the crime of arson.

The list is completed by demonstrators arrested for: receiving or launching incendiary devices and unjustified shots on public roads.

The Government explained that, even if there was an intention to reverse the pardons, there is no legal figure that allows them to do so.
