The occupancy of hotels in Rio de Janeiro at the turn of the year returned to pre-pandemic levels, reaching 98% of its capacity, according to the State Union of Means of Accommodation.
Last year the New Year’s Eve party returned to normal, with no restrictions.
With the higher dollar, many people preferred to stay in the country, and Rio de Janeiro is always one of the most popular destinations for domestic and foreign tourists at this time of year.
Of the total number of tourists, 25% were from other countries, mostly North Americans and Europeans. In the previous year it was 10%.
The president of the hotel chain’s union, Alfredo Lopes, celebrated, in an interview with Jovem Pan, this occupation at the turn of the year and already expects a packed Carnival.
“New Year’s Eve this year exceeded all our expectations, 98% occupancy. And what’s better, it marked the return of the international market. Some hotels had up to 40% to 50% foreigners. Very good. This already signals a successful peak season,” he stated.
