Unemployment of foreigners in Chile reaches 8.3% in September – November 2022

The unemployment rate of the foreign population in Chile stood at 8.3% in the September-November 2022 moving quarter, a year-on-year increase of 1.9 percentage points, reported Tuesday the National Statistics Institute (INE).

According to the INE National Employment Survey, the number of unemployed foreigners grew 31.7% in the referred period, while the labor force increased 1.8%.

The survey also indicated that the estimate of the foreign employed population fell 0.3% in 12 months, a decrease influenced by the manufacturing industry, with a drop of 3.2%, as well as lodging and food service, which decreased 0.1%.

The INE detailed that among women, the unemployment rate stood at 11%, which marked an interannual increase of 3.8 percentage points, while among men it was 6.2%, with an increase of 0.4% per year.

For its part, the informal employment rate of the foreign population was 29.1%, equivalent to 284,604 people.

At the end of 2021, foreigners residing in Chile exceeded 1.4 million people, which represented an increase of 1.5% compared to the measurements of 2020, as well as 14.1% compared to 2018, according to official figures.
