BEST DESTINATIONS IN BRAZIL IN 2023

Check out our list of tips with the best destinations in Brazil in 2023. The 23 best destinations in Brazil to travel in 2023 are waiting for you!

1 – LENÇÓIS MARANHENSES, MARANHÃO

The Lençóis Maranhenses National Park is the right destination to help recover your emotional side or to get you off your axis for good, lol. And we say that because it’s impossible not to fall in love with this place! When viewing the lakes of Lençois Maranhenses for the first time, you will feel an indescribable mix of emotions. And it’s worth every feeling that that magical scenery is able to awaken in travelers.

Lençóis Maranhenses has a unique landscape in the world. Among the most popular tours in the region are the Lagoa Bonita Circuit and the Lagoa Azul Circuit, as well as the visit to Lagoa das Emendadas and Canto de Atins.

And not only from lakes does tourism live there. Those who visit Lençois Maranhenses can spend even more days at Caburé and Atins beaches, on trips along the Preguiças River and Formiga River and even in kitesurfing, which is getting very popular in the region.

All involving routes in 4×4 vehicles, beautiful landscapes, transparent waters and fine white sand. And as if that were not enough, it is still possible to appreciate the immensity of the local beauty in a flight over the Lençóis Maranhenses or make the incredible crossing of the Lençóis Maranhenses. Unforgettable experience and a great tip for traveling around Brazil!

When to go to Lençóis Maranhenses

The high season of Lençóis Maranhenses happens during and right after the rains, especially between the months of April and September. At the height of the drought, from October to December, many lakes disappear and the landscape, full of bodies of water, turns into an immense desert.

The truth, however, is that Lençóis Maranhenses are beautiful all year round, with or without full lagoons. So go anyway! In the absence of lagoons, you can enjoy the beach! See more about when to go to Lençóis Maranhenses.

How to get to Lençóis Maranhenses

The main gateways to the Lençóis Maranhenses National Park are Barreirinhas (from where you have access to Atins) and Santo Amaro do Maranhão. The only airport in the region – Barreirinhas Airport – only receives charter flights from São Luís and the cost of the journey is very high.

The best airport for visiting Lençóis Maranhenses is São Luís International Airport – SLZ. From there, you will need to take land transport, which can be a car, an intercity bus or a chartered van to Barreirinhas or Santo Amaro do Maranhão.

How long to stay in Lençóis Maranhenses

Getting to Lençóis Maranhenses is not that simple, so take the opportunity to stay as long as you can in the region. To get to know just the surroundings of Barreirinhas, five days will be enough. If you want to share accommodation with Santo Amaro and Atins, stay at least ten days there. It is worth it!

2 – PRAIA DO FORTE, BAHIA

Praia do Forte is ideal for those who want a destination with easy access, a sea, a swimming pool and a delightful resort to rest. Close to Salvador and surrounded by other wonderful beaches on the North Coast of Bahia, Praia do Forte offers everything you need to be happy.

Forte Beach, Bahia (Photo internet reproduction)

In addition to incredible beaches and a magical setting, worthy of the best destinations in Brazil, Praia do Forte also has all-inclusive resorts, charming inns and a charming village that leaves any tourist in love. You will also find unmissable attractions for the whole family, including the Tamar Project, Garcia d’Ávila Castle  and the humpback whale season, which put on a show at sea. And we haven’t even gotten to the gastronomy yet, always memorable!

When to go to Praia do Forte

Praia do Forte is a great beach destination almost all year round. The exception is the months of April, May and June, when the rains tend to be more frequent, which can disrupt the trip of those who wait for blue skies and peak sun every day.

The good news is that, even in the rainy season, the blue sky usually appears there. And like a good destination in Bahia, the climate is always warm, as is the sea. With that, Praia do Forte hardly disappoints.

Forte Beach, Bahia (Photo internet reproduction)

How to get to Praia do Forte

Part of the municipality of Mata de São João and one of the main destinations on the North Coast of Bahia, Praia do Forte is just 57 km from Salvador International Airport.

Praia do Forte is very easy to reach, which is why it is a great option for holidays and also for a day trip for those who are in the capital of Bahia. You can reach Praia do Forte by car, private transfer, uber, taxi, bus and even van. And the transport options to Praia do Forte fit every budget!

How long to stay in Praia do Forte

Praia do Forte can be visited on a day trip from Salvador and nearby beaches, but we can guarantee that the destination deserves a few more days.

If the idea is to enjoy, relax and discover other attractions on the North Coast of Bahia, the ideal is to stay in Praia do Forte for 4 or 5 days. It’s worth even more, if the request is to do everything without haste.

Tip of Praia do Forte

Pay attention to the tide table when booking a trip to Praia do Forte. To see the natural pools, the ideal is to travel during the new and full moons. It is also worth choosing the time of the humpback season, between July and October, which can always yield a good tour.

3 – JALAPÃO, TOCANTINS

The Jalapão springs (boilers) are capable of pulling any traveler who got discouraged in the past year out of the hole. Take advantage of the energies of the Tocantins springs to renew your body, soul and feelings to face a new year, certainly much better than the last! And as in the springs nothing is capable of sinking, take the opportunity to head towards the top of happiness!

A trip to Jalapão involves magnificent landscapes, golden dunes, floating in boilers and invigorating waterfalls. Among the most popular tourist attractions in Jalapão are the Dunes of Jalapão, Cachoeira do Formiga, Prainha do Rio Novo, Cachoeira da Velha, Serra do Espírito Santo and at least one of the fervedouros, one of the most beautiful being Fervedouro Nice view. Located in the middle of the still little-explored cerrado of Tocantins, Jalapão is being discovered by tourists looking for a few days of rest away from the big urban centers. The destination is ideal for relaxing and intensely enjoying contact with nature.

Jalapão, Tocantins (Photo internet reproduction)

When to go to Jalapão

Jalapão can be visited throughout the year. What should be observed is the period of drought and rain. The dry season in Jalapão runs from May to September, with May to July being the best months to travel. The rains happen from October to April, having a peak in the months of December, January and February.

Despite the heat, the rain can disrupt walks like the trail through Serra do Espírito Santo. Prefer the months with less rain to travel.

How to get to Jalapão

There are no airports in the Jalapão region. The only means of transport there is by land. For those arriving from other states, the ideal is to fly to Palmas, the capital of Tocantins, and from there drive to Jalapão.

The main access route from Palmas is the TO-030 to Santa Tereza do Tocantins, and then the TO-130 to Ponte Alta. The route from Palmas to Ponte Alta is all paved, then follows a dirt and sand track, so travel in a 4×4. For those going to Mateiros, the journey continues along the TO-255.

Jalapão, Tocantins (Photo internet reproduction)

How many days to stay

Those who want to visit Jalapão will find packages that vary between two and seven days. Two days will be enough to see the main attractions, but it will be very busy! To get to know the region better, we suggest the five-day itineraries in Jalapão (not including the nights in Palmas). Thus, it will be possible to visit several boilers, waterfalls, go rafting and canoeing, walk the Serra do Espírito Santo trail and even see the sunset at Pedra Furada. The longer the better!

4 – CHAPADA DIAMANTINA, BAHIA

Raise your head and take advantage of Chapada Diamantina to look towards the top of some of the most beautiful waterfalls in Brazil! The region is full of natural beauties and there will be no shortage of invigorating (and cold) baths to spend 2023 much more attentive and, of course, more lively with the directions of life. Looking forward and also upwards will do you a lot of good on the 2023 trips!

Chapada Diamantina, one of the best destinations in Brazil, is the kind of place that causes passion among travelers. When visiting the region, be sure to climb to the top of Morro do Pai Inácio, see the immensity of the landscape at the top of Cachoeira da Fumaça, swim in the middle of the canyon of Cachoeira do Buracão, dive in the transparent waters of Pratinha and watch the light show at Poço Azul and Poço Encantado.

This is just the beginning of the adventure through one of the most spectacular nature trails in Brazil. So spectacular that the city of Lençóis, the main base for those who want to discover the region of the Chapada Diamantina National Park, was elected the “Best National Destination” of 2019 by the readers of Melhores Destinos. There will be no shortage of things to do in Chapada Diamantina when you’re there!

Chapada Diamantina, Bahia (Photo internet reproduction)

When to go to Chapada Diamantina

Chapada Diamantina can be visited throughout the year, but the region is marked by two distinct periods of climate. The first, from November to March, is hot and humid, with a lot of rain and higher temperatures. The months from May to September are characterized by the driest period and with slightly lower temperatures. Both periods have advantages, so you need to be aware of your travel priorities when choosing the ideal time to travel.

It is worth mentioning that the region tends to be crowded on all holidays and school holidays, which can disrupt the experience of greater contact with nature. During the rest of the year Chapada Diamantina usually has a calm rhythm, but always with tourists.

You can get to the city by car, which helps in getting around the tours; bus, departing from Salvador and the most economical way to travel to Chapada Diamantina; or plane, and the only airport that receives commercial flights in Chapada Diamantina is Lençóis Airport – LEC.

How long to stay in Chapada Diamantina

With 3 or 4 days in the region it will be possible to know only the basics. If you have more time, you can invest in overnight stays in different bases; explore longer trails and see many more attractions. A 7-day trip already helps to explore different regions. A 10-day itinerary even allows you to hike the Vale do Pati trail. Check out some suggested itineraries around Chapada Diamantina.

5 – CHAPADA DOS VEADEIROS, GOIÁS

In 2023, take the opportunity to follow new paths, especially if these paths lead to fantastic waterfalls, incredible sunsets and the grandiose landscape of Chapada dos Veadeiros. When to go to Chapada dos Veadeiros

Chapada dos Veadeiros can be visited all year round, but the dry season is more recommended for the trip. Between the months of May and September, Chapada dos Veadeiros will be in high season, when the dry climate and almost total absence of rain make the walks more peaceful and the sunset even more beautiful.

In the months of October to April, the climate changes and the rains take over the region, which creates a risk of water in several waterfalls. The weather forecast has a lot of influence on the travel experience.

How to get to Chapada dos Veadeiros

Brasília is the city with the closest airport for those who are in other states, since there are no airports in the surroundings of Chapada dos Veadeiros. From Brasília International Airport – BSB, it will be easy to rent a car to take the road to Chapada dos Veadeiros or take a bus to Alto Paraíso de Goiás. From Alto Paraíso, it will be another 36 km to the village of São Jorge and 90 km to Cavalcante.

Some events on the city’s calendar tend to move the region, so you need to stay tuned. One of the most popular beaches on the North Coast of São Paulo, Maresias is a destination for partygoers who don’t give up resting. All at the same time and in the same place!

Maresias, combined with other beaches in São Sebastião, forms one of the most beautiful stretches of the North Coast of São Paulo. It is important to note that Porto Seguro also offers travelers some of the best beaches in Brazil, in destinations such as Arraial d’Ajuda, Trancoso, Praia do Espelho and Caraíva. Not to mention the “neighbours” Santa Cruz Cabrália, Santo André and Ponta do Corumbau.

The good energies of Bahia are capable of recharging any battery, even your own! A bath in that sea will be able to refresh your body, mind and soul,

How to get to Porto Seguro

Only 3 km away from the main tourist attractions in Porto Seguro, the airport is very practical for those arriving from other states.

When to go to Porto Seguro

Porto Seguro can be visited throughout the year, but it is necessary to stay tuned in the right tide to be able to see the mirror effect that made the destination famous. To see the beach in its maximum beauty, the ideal is to travel during the new and full moons, when the tide is more active and the mirror effect can be seen at the exact moment of the lowest tide. To know the ideal period, consult the tide table and the lunar calendar. Also be aware of the time of day of the tour, as low tide happens each day at a different time.

How long to stay in Porto Seguro

Porto Seguro yields much more than a holiday trip. To enjoy the city and visit neighboring destinations, the ideal is to stay at least seven days in the region. So you can divide the trip between Porto Seguro, Arraial d’Ajuda and Trancoso.

Let’s say that it won’t be enough to see everything, but it’s a good start! If you want to go deep in the South Coast of Bahia, schedule a trip of ten to twelve days, also visiting Caraíva and Praia do Espelho. And if you can’t see everything, get ready to come back!

And we are not even going into the merits of the flavors, seasonings and ingredients from Minas Gerais, always capable of giving that extra dose of energy for the days to come.

12 – SÃO MIGUEL DOS MILAGRES, ALAGOAS

The name São Miguel dos Milagres says it all, Saint Michael of the Miracles. If you’ve had a difficult year, then it doesn’t hurt to get attached to miracles, right? But, in this case, we are not just talking about the miracles of faith, but about getting attached to the spectacular color of the water, the relaxing landscape and the sunny days with your feet on the sand that the coast of Alagoas has in store for you. São Miguel dos Milagres is one of the best destinations in Brazil to rest by the sea!

The region – called the Ecological Route of Miracles – is ideal for those looking for deserted beaches and who are not interested in luxury and refinement during their holidays. São Miguel still preserves the air of a fisherman’s village, but with the right dose of comfort for days off. You can enjoy the beauty of the region in destinations such as Praia do Toque and Praia do Patacho.

It is also worth walking to Capela dos Milagres (take the opportunity to make that special request for a more peaceful year) and enjoy Praia do Riacho, Praia do Marceneiro and Praia da Barra de Camaragibe. All are quiet and often deserted sandstrips. And keep an eye on the tide for the opportunity to see the rock pools. The most important thing in São Miguel dos Milagres is to relax!

13 – ILHA GRANDE, RIO DE JANEIRO

Those looking for new directions in 2023 can start their journey by following the paths of Ilha Grande. One of the best destinations in Brazil for those who love beaches, Ilha Grande also surprises with incredible trails amidst the scenery of Costa Verde in Rio de Janeiro.

Along with other islands in Angra dos Reis, Ilha Grande forms a paradise for lovers of the sea. There are more than 100 options of beaches and amazing spots to dive and enjoy a few sunny days. The water, often in an emerald tone, mixes with the rich vegetation and makes the scenery a very well-preserved paradise. Also remembering that Ilha Grande and Paraty received, in 2019, the title of World Heritage of Humanity by Unesco.

It’s impossible not to fall in love with stretches of sand like Praia do Aventureiro, which is considered one of the best beaches in Brazil, Praia de Lopes Mendes, the cove of Praia do Caxadaço or the wonderful meeting of fresh and salt water at Praia da Parnaioca.

Not to mention the colorful sea of Ilhas Botinas and Lagoa Azul or the intense green of Ilha da Gipóia. It will be difficult to choose from so many options! And if the idea is to put your head in place, invest in the walking trails, which connect all these wonders.

When to go to Ilha Grande

The climate on Ilha Grande is not among the most stable in the world, but it is clear that in some periods of the year it is easier to predict that the sun will reign and that southwest wind will not disturb the departure of the boat trips. The best time to travel is from April onwards, when the rains begin to ease up, making autumn the best time to visit the region. From April to August there is less rain, prices are lower and the island is less crowded.

How to get to Ilha Grande

The only way to get to Ilha Grande is by boat. Cars won’t be very useful on the trip, as they can’t enter the island and will be parked on the mainland. The final journey to Ilha Grande can be done using different routes, the fastest being from Angra dos Reis. The journey time by boat varies between 15 minutes and 1h30. The value depends on the type of boat chosen: ferry, schooner or speedboat.

How long to stay on Ilha Grande

To get to know the main beaches, the ideal is to stay on Ilha Grande for a week. This also includes the forecast that it might rain a few days. That way you won’t be sad that you missed a few days in bad weather. If you only have a free weekend, choose to arrive at the island very early to allow time to do at least one of the more distant tours.

Ilha Grande tips

A trip to Ilha Grande requires a bit of organization and it won’t be easy to choose between so many tours and beaches to enjoy on your days off.

14 – PIRENÓPOLIS, GOIÁS

Those who need to slow down and at the same time want to recharge their batteries will love the city of Pirenópolis, in Goiás. With a country feel, surrounded by colonial houses and full of beautiful waterfalls, Pirenópolis is a destination to be happy with the whole family! The city is charming, the waterfalls are easily accessible and the spice from Goiás (I always miss the pamonha and Piri casserole) will make any tourist happy.

In addition to the beautiful Historic Center of Pirenópolis, tourists visiting the city can invest in dozens of waterfalls to spend a day off in the region. And, unlike other nature destinations where you have to take long trails to reach the attractions, in Piri, you can indulge yourself in relaxing baths along very short routes that are accessible to all ages. A great option for families and those not willing to take long walks.

Don’t miss Cachoeira do Rosário, Cachoeira do Lázaro, Cachoeira Santa Maria, Cachoeira do Abade and many other waterfalls in Pirenópolis. Oh! But if you really want a bit of physical activity, be sure to go to the trails of Cachoeiras dos Dragões and Cachoeiras Bonsucesso. There is a lot to do in Pirenópolis, enjoy every second and go home full of energy for the new year!

When to go to Pirenópolis

With two well-defined seasons – one dry and the other rainy – it is easy to choose when to go to Pirenópolis. For those who want to escape the rains, the months of May to September are the most suitable for the trip.

The beginning of the dry season — especially between May and June — marks one of the best times to visit the region. The peak of the rainy season happens in the summer, between the months of November and February, when storms are more constant. Even if it rains, Pirenópolis can be visited throughout the year.

How to get to Pirenopólis

Pirenópolis is located in the state of Goiás, 150 km from Brasília and 130 km from Goiânia. The two capitals are good gateways for travelers from other states. In Pirenópolis, commercial flights do not arrive, so the last leg must be by land, either by car or bus. The closest airports to Pirenópolis are Brasília International Airport (BSB) and Goiânia Santa Genoveva Airport (GYN).

15 – MARAÚ PENINSULA, BAHIA

Look at the beaches of Bahia one more time. It’s hard to think of recharging your energies by the sea without remembering the coast of Bahia. And as the abundance of good energy is enormous in Bahia, it’s only fair that we have more beach destinations there. Especially because Bahia has the longest coastline in Brazil!

One of the most sensational parts of Bahia’s beaches is the Maraú Peninsula, where Barra Grande and Taipu de Fora are located. The region offers incredible natural pools, intense coconut groves, long strips of deserted sand, great walks and an emotional sunset. The Peninsula of Maraú is one of those paradises still little known among Brazilians. And, in this case, the difficult access is one of the explanations why the Maraú Peninsula still remains so peaceful.

When to go to Peninsula de Maraú

The Maraú Peninsula is a good destination to be visited throughout the year, as the heat reigns there! The high season in Peninsula de Maraú is marked by summer, especially after Christmas and until Carnival. It is during this period that the temperature is higher and the rains decrease.

Long holidays are also usually disputed, as well as school holidays in July. When boarding towards Maraú, pay attention to the tide table to be able to see the natural pools at the height of their beauty. Prefer to travel on new and full moons.

How to get to Peninsula de Maraú

Getting to Barra Grande, Taipu de Fora and other beaches on the Maraú Peninsula is no simple task and requires a few kilometers of dirt road or a journey by speedboat or boat via Camamu Bay. Believe me, after overcoming the challenge of arrival, you will find a charming destination!

The closest airport to Peninsula de Maraú is Ilhéus Airport, 127 km away. From the airport it will be necessary to take a car or transfer to the Maraú Peninsula. Another option is to go to Camamu and from there take a boat to Barra Grande. If you choose to go by car, stay tuned! The road is very bad, with stretches of sand and it takes extra care. See more about how to get to Peninsula de Maraú.

How many days to stay in Peninsula de Maraú

Getting to Peninsula de Maraú is not easy, so stay there as long as possible! A 4-day long holiday will help you get to know the region, but a week’s worth of trips will make for wonderful trips and there’s still time to really relax.

16 – FOZ DO IGUAÇÚ, PARANÁ

It is difficult to find a destination that concentrates more energy than Foz do Iguaçú. And we say that not only because of the hydroelectric plant, but also because of the power of nature that surrounds the region. Foz do Iguaçú is the city that has the honor of guarding, on the Brazilian side, a scenario worthy of movies! One of the most beautiful spectacles of nature.

When visiting Foz do Iguaçú, start with the Iguaçú National Park, where the Iguaçú Falls are located!

The place deserves to be known calmly and it is worth investing in the boat trip that arrives very close to the waters of the falls. It is also worth visiting Parque das Aves and even flying over the falls in a helicopter! With more time, get to know Itaipú Binational, the Zen Buddhist Temple and Marco da Três Fronteiras.

Visiting Foz do Iguaçú also allows you to get to know two other countries: Paraguay (for some shopping in Ciudad del Este) and Argentina (to visit the Iguazú National Park). Foz do Iguaçú is a great choice among the best destinations in Brazil for 2023.

When to go to Foz do Iguaçú

The Iguaçú Falls change a lot throughout the year, but they will always be beautiful, whether with much or little water. If, when heading to Foz do Iguaçú, you want to see the waterfalls at their maximum potential and prefer to enjoy them with higher temperatures, go in the summer.

However, if you prefer to see the beauty of waterfalls with more defined shapes and still feel a chill typical of the south, it is recommended to go in the winter.

How to get to Foz do Iguaçú

Getting to Foz do Iguaçú is very easy! The region has the International Airport of Foz do Iguaçú / Cataratas – IGU, the main gateway for tourists who want to visit the falls. The airport is 13 km from the city center and welcomes us mainly from Porto Alegre, Curitiba, São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.

17 – BELÉM, PARÁ

The seasoning of jambu combined with the beat of carimbó is capable of taking any tourist out of the blue and giving back, with full force, the energies for 2023! One of the best destinations in Brazil for those who like to discover different flavors, cultures and stories, Belém is the right choice to give life a boost. And we’re not even talking about the Ver-o-Peso Market bottles, which are capable of solving any problem!

When visiting Belém, try everything that appears again. This way you will have a taste of Pará and, certainly, you will want to come back. Let yourself be carried away by the carimbó and the tremble of the jambu, taste the most different fish and typical dishes, eat chestnuts in all forms (the fresh ones are wonderful), visit all the green spaces in the city (they are a great refuge for the hot days) and make an appointment after the rain (it always appears). Go with an open heart and let it be filled with the intensity of the people of Pará. Belém makes for a great trip through Brazil.

When to go to Belém

Belém, in Pará, is a great destination to be visited all year round, but the weather is always hot and rain reigns throughout the year. She will be a faithful companion every month, with lesser or greater intensity.

So, don’t fear the weather and head to Belém anytime! But if you want a little less rain, travel from June to November. October is especially interesting due to the Círio de Nazaré festivities. In this case, stay tuned so you don’t run out of vacancies in hotels.

How to get to Belém

The main gateway for tourists visiting the city is Belém Val-De-Cans International Airport (BEL). Despite being far from most of the main Brazilian capitals, Belém is easily accessible by direct flight from Brasília, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte, Fortaleza, Manaus, São Luis, Recife, Macapá, Santarém, Marabá and Altamira.

How many days to stay in Belém

Belém is ideal for those who want to travel on an extended holiday and also for those who have more time to explore nearby regions, such as Ilha do Marajó. Four days are enough to see the main attractions.

18 – BÚZIOS, RIO DE JANEIRO

Búzios, in the Lagos Region of Rio de Janeiro, is one of the best destinations in Brazil to relax by the sea. The city is full of beaches and surrounded by a lot of charm. With a certain tone of refinement combined with wonderful landscapes, Búzios enchants travelers who seek rest combined with a good dose of comfort. Everything to recover your energies in a good swim in the sea.

Praia Brava in Búzios, Rio de Janeiro (Photo internet reproduction)

There are more than 20 beach options in Búzios capable of pleasing all tastes. Some are deserted beaches, others quite agitated. Beaches that form pools, others with lots of waves. There are also beaches formed by long strips of sand, with pink tones and even a beach almost entirely made of stone. There’s even a nudist beach!

Exactly because it is so eclectic, Búzios usually pleases all travelers. In Búzios it is still worth taking advantage of the excellent cuisine, busy nightlife, the end of the afternoon at Orla Bardot and good shopping options, especially on the famous Rua das Pedras. And with so many spectacular inns and hotels in Búzios, it won’t be difficult to rest there.

When to go to Búzios

Búzios is a good travel option for the whole year. The climate is stable, always pleasant and with little rainfall. The abundance of inns also helps last minute trips. It is only worth paying attention to the fact that Búzios tends to get crowded on long holidays. Crowded for real! If possible, prefer to travel on weekdays, when the beaches are always quieter.

How to get to Búzios

The most common route to get to Búzios is from Rio de Janeiro, where Santos Dumont Airport (SDU) and Galeão Airport are located, with flights arriving from all over the country. Rio de Janeiro is only 170 km away from Búzios and is often the most economical option for the air route, as flights to the Lagos Region are usually very expensive. From Rio de Janeiro it will be easy to rent a car or take the bus or transfer to Búzios.

How many days to stay in Búzios

A trip of three to four days already allows you to visit the main beaches of Búzios, Rua das Pedras and feel the delicious climate of the place. 19 – BONITO, MATO GROSSO DO SUL

The transparent waters of Bonito will certainly do you good in 2023. Bonito is an incredible destination to admire crystalline rivers, marine life, observe birds and other wild animals, visit caves such as Gruta do Lago Azul, hike trails, spend the day enjoying the calm waters of a spa close with an invigorating waterfall bath.

The possibilities are countless and all of them will help you spend a much more peaceful 2023, with the right to be in contact with the invigorating nature of Bonito!

Bonito’s main attraction is Gruta do Lago Azul, a cave with a bluish lake that reaches a depth of 90 meters. It is also worth checking out the Parque das Cachoeiras, the Serra da Bodoquena Waterfalls or the wonderful Boca da Onça, which has the largest waterfall in Mato Grasso do Sul! Just to start!

Bonito, Mato Grosso do Sul (Photo internet reproduction)

When to go to Bonito

Bonito is a good option for the whole year, but each season offers a different experience to the visitor. The region has two well-defined seasons: rainy (summer) and dry (winter). The high season is during the summer, when the waterfalls are at their fullest, but it is in the winter that the rivers are crystal clear due to the lack of rain. One suggestion I leave is to travel in autumn or spring, mid-season periods that can yield great outings in several different activities.

How to get to Bonito

To get to Bonito, you can take a direct flight to Bonito Airport – BYO or head to Campo Grande Airport – CGR, which offers more flights at more affordable prices.

Campo Grande is 300 km from Bonito and is the gateway for most tourists traveling from other states. If you land in Campo Grande, you can head towards Bonito in a rented car, with buses departing from the Campo Grande bus station or in shared transport that leaves from the airport itself.

To be able to do several tours, the ideal is to stay in Bonito for at least a week. Even because the logistics of getting there and leaving often take two days of travel. And since you’ll already be there, stay as long as you can!

20 – UBATUBA, SÃO PAULO

It’s even hard to believe that close to one of the biggest and fastest cities in the world is a paradise with more than one hundred beaches surrounded by the intense green of the Atlantic Forest. The truth, however, is that it only takes a little more than 200 km to leave São Paulo and reach Ubatuba, one of the best destinations in Brazil for those looking for beaches and where there is a wide range of deserted sand strips to rest, relax and, if necessary, isolate yourself.

Ubatuba is able to please all tourists, both those who prefer the calm of a practically exclusive beach and those who can’t give up a good and lively kiosk on the most popular beach. There are beaches in Ubatuba with easy access, others with beautiful trails through the Atlantic Forest and even those with access only by boat, such as the spectacular Ilha das Couves.

Ubatuba is for everyone and we are sure it is for you too. We know that often the weather forecast in Ubatuba does not help and the rain takes tourists by surprise in the middle of a beautiful sunny day. However, if the wind blows in the right direction, the clouds will disappear and Ubatuba will become one of the best destinations in Brazil to relax in 2023.

Ubatuba, São Paulo (Photo internet reproduction)

When to go to Ubatuba

The very unstable climate gives the city the nickname of “Ubachuva” (chuva is rain in Brazilian Portugues). Jokes aside, the truth is that this stretch of the coast of São Paulo, surrounded by Serra do Mar, has really high rainfall. Days of closed weather are quite common and Ubatuba is not empty for that reason.

On the other hand, when the forecast is for strong sun, tourists rush to enjoy every minute of the beach! To increase your chances of good weather, the wettest and hottest period is December and March, while June, July and August are the coldest months, but with less rain.

How to get to Ubatuba

Ubatuba is 220 km from the capital of São Paulo and 70 km from Paraty, in Rio de Janeiro. In Ubatuba there are no airports and the best way to get there is by hitting the road. The ideal, to visit several beaches and have freedom of itinerary is to make the trip by car, but the bus will also be very efficient to reach the region.

How long to stay in Ubatuba

Ubatuba fits into every type of trip, from a busy weekend to long school holidays. There are many beaches to be visited and traveling between them can take time. Putting together an itinerary for the beaches of Ubatuba is not always easy. The tip is to let go of the beach you already know and always invest in new sand strips on each trip.
