Venezuela’s steel industry recovers with production of more than 230,000 tonnes of liquid steel

The Venezuelan state company Siderúrgica del Orinoco Alfredo Maneiro (Sidor) announced Monday that it reactivated 166 metal processing companies in 2022 and increased the production of liquid steel to more than 230,000 tons.

The president of Sidor, Néstor Astudillo, explained that in 2020 the country produced 19,800 tonnes of liquid steel, while in 2021 production reached 160,000 tonnes.

In addition, he highlighted that the recovery of the national steel industry has allowed the creation of 20,000 direct jobs and more than 80,000 indirect ones.

The spokesperson highlighted that the steel company managed to activate 28 of its plants and that growth is projected to deepen in 2023 with the reactivation of other plants.
