The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) revised the growth of the Brazilian economy in 2021 upwards.
The increase went from 4.6% to 5%. The movement is part of a review process of the GDP data, which traditionally occurs in the third quarter of the year.
On the supply side, the upward revision occurred in all components.
The revised data show that the expansion in industry rose from 4.5% to 4.8%; in services, from 4.7% to 5.2%.
Agriculture and cattle-raising, which had shrunk by 0.2%, now register a growth of 0.3%.
There were also revisions on the demand side.
The main revision was in government consumption, which grew from 2% to 3.5%. Household consumption had a one-off adjustment: the expansion went from 3.6% to 3.7%.
Investment growth was revised downwards, from 17.2% to 16.5%.
This is the second announcement of revised GDP data in less than a month.
On Nov. 4, the new figures for 2020 were released: the GDP retraction for that year went from 3.9% to 3.3%.
