Mexican economy confirms 4.3% annual growth in the third quarter of 2022

The Mexican economy grew in the third quarter of 2022 very slightly above what was expected by the market consensus and confirmed the data provided by the Inegi Timely Estimate a month ago.

At an annual rate and with seasonally adjusted series, in the third quarter of 2022 the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) increased 4.3% in real terms, according to the Inegi.

This is the same data that was reported in the Timely Estimate a month ago and a figure slightly better than that expected by consensus.

By large groups of economic activities, the GDP of tertiary activities rose 4.5%; that of secondary schools 3.7% and that of primary schools with 3.2%.

With the data from the third quarter, the Mexican economy ran six consecutive quarters with increases in GDP.

Regarding its quarterly increase, in the third quarter of 2022 and with seasonally adjusted figures, GDP increased 0.9% at a quarterly rate in real terms.

This data implied a slight correction regarding the data from the Timely Estimate, which was 1% quarterly growth.

Cumulatively, in the first nine months of 2022 and with seasonally adjusted series, GDP increased 2.8% at the annual rate.

ECONOMIC ACTIVITY IN SEPTEMBER

The Inegi reported along with the revised GDP the data of the Global Indicator of Economic Activity (IGAE).

The data showed that in September 2022 and with seasonally adjusted figures, the Mexican economy increased 0.7% at a monthly rate.

This data was better than the previous data for August and represented that the economy continued to expand for the third consecutive month.

Tertiary activities increased 1% in September; the primary ones 0.5% and the secondary ones fell 0.2%.

Last September, at the annual rate and with seasonally adjusted series, the IGAE advanced 5.1% in real terms. By large groups of activities, primaries grew 7.9%; tertiary 5.5% and secondary 4.3%.
