Brazil’s Consumer Price Index IPCA-15 rises 0.53% in November, boosted by food

The National Wide Consumer Price Index 15 (IPCA-15), an index considered to be the country’s inflation forecast, rose 0.53% in November after climbing 0.16% in October.

The data were released on Thursday (Nov. 24) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).

The indicator accumulates a high of 5.35% in the year and 6.17% in 12 months, below the 6.85% of the 12 months immediately before.

In November 2021, the rate was 1.17%.

All product and service groups surveyed had a positive variation in November, except Communication (0%), which was stable.

The greatest impacts came from Food and Beverages (0.54%) and Health and Personal Care (0.91%).

Next comes the Transportation group, which after dropping 0.64% in October, climbed 0.49% in November.

The Food and Beverages group accelerated from October (0.21%) to November (0.54%), influenced by foodstuffs for home consumption (0.60%).

In the Health and Personal Care group (0.91%), the highlights were personal hygiene items (1.76%), especially skin care products (6.68%) and health insurance (1.21%).

In Transportation (0.49%), fuels (2.04%) once again showed positive variation after five consecutive months of drops.

The housing group’s acceleration is mainly the result of higher residential rents (0.83%) and electricity (0.44%).

In relation to the regional indices, prices in all the surveyed regions showed positive variations in November.

The highest hikes occurred in Recife (0.78%) and Brasília (0.78%). The lowest variation was registered in Curitiba (0.11%).
