Argentina seeks to expand the presence of technology-based companies in China

The Argentine ambassador to China highlighted the importance of the participation of more than 20 companies from his country in the China International Import and Export Fair (CIIE), which led to the installation, for the first time, of an exclusive pavilion in the services sector.

Argentina seeks to expand the participation of its technology-based companies in the Asian giant, said the ambassador in Beijing, Sabino Vaca Narvaja, highlighting that the presence at the International Fair will allow “consolidation of the country brand,” as he stated before the Télam agency.

The diplomat highlighted the country’s presence at the International Fair, which in 2022 “doubles the number of companies from the previous edition,” and admitted that, “for the first time, the country has a space to promote the services sector based on in knowledge and technology.”

Vaca Narvaja stressed that there is great interest in promoting the services sector based on knowledge, biotechnology and agrotechnology, which “are pillars of national growth and an increasingly important part of world trade.”

“[The aim is] to present other products that go beyond those that we traditionally export to China, such as wine,” he stressed.

The delegation is made up of 20 companies from the provinces of Buenos Aires, Mendoza and Salta, and has a national technological offer that includes “from low-cost satellites, to intelligent construction systems, through digital solutions for energy, medicine and agriculture,” according to the country’s Embassy in China.

For his part, the Chinese head of state, Xi Jinping, stressed during the opening of the fair that “China will work with all countries to share the opportunities that arise from its vast market” and pointed out that his country “will establish pilot zones to Silk Road e-commerce cooperation and build national demonstration zones for the innovative development of trade in services, so as to foster innovation in trade and promote high-quality Belt and Road cooperation.”

Argentina “will be able to benefit from these policies in the short term,” says the ambassador, in light of the agreement signed at the beginning of 2022 between the presidents Alberto Fernández and Xi Jinping, during the Argentine president’s last visit to Beijing.

The fifth edition of the main fair related to exports from China, the second largest trading partner of the South American country, “is a platform for strategic positioning at a global level through which it is possible to consolidate our country brand, we must make the most of this historic possibility”, concluded Vaca Narvaja.
