Venezuela details how negotiations with the U.S. are advancing to lift sanctions

Venezuela’s deputy foreign minister for North American affairs, Carlos Ron, responded to a question from Sputnik about negotiations with the U.S. to reduce sanctions against the Latin American country.

“These are ongoing conversations; we have not yet reached conclusions.”

“I think the important thing here is to understand that Venezuela has always been open to dialogue. The imposition of sanctions was something that the United States created.”

“We hope that they decide for a different type of approach towards Venezuela and return to diplomacy and to that different approach,” shared the vice minister and president of the Simón Bolívar Institute for Peace and Solidarity among Peoples (ISB), Carlos Ron, during the Valdái Club meeting.

In early October, it was reported that U.S. President Joe Biden was preparing to reduce sanctions on Venezuela to allow the U.S. oil company Chevron to extract crude oil in that country again.

The move could help boost the global oil supply and curb rising energy prices as the Biden Administration heads toward the midterm elections in November.

On September 26, during his meeting with his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Carlos Faría maintained that the U.S. continues to attack his country, and this time it did so by trying to politicize the migration of citizens of that South American nation.

He also stated that Moscow and Caracas are evaluating increasing trade, despite the sanctions both nations face.
