Telecom investments in Brazil increased by 4.8% in the first half of 2022

Brazil’s telecom operators totaled investment of R$17.2 billion (US$3.3 billion) during the first half of 2022, representing a 4.8% year-over-year growth, according to the most recent data from Conexis Brasil Digital.

In a recent report by the Conexis operators’ association, Conexis highlights that investment in the first half of the year was R$17.2 billion in nominal terms, a value higher than the R$14 billion average of the last five years.

In real terms, the half-year investment stood at R$17.4 billion, 6% less than the same period in 2021.

For 2021, Conexis notes that investment was R$35.6 billion in nominal terms.

“The sector’s annual investment is close to R$40 billion. It allows companies to exceed the 5G coverage target set. Now, with all the capital cities connected, we have installed twice as many independent 5G antennas as required by Anatel,” said Conexis Brasil Digital CEO Marcos Ferrari.

The Brazilian telecommunications industry recorded a total of R$136.9 billion in revenue, discounting inflationary effects during the first half of 2022. In the second quarter, revenue was R$68.1 billion.

Mobile service accounted for the largest proportion of the sector’s revenues by contributing about 40 percent of the total, while fixed broadband accounted for 28 percent of gross revenues in the semester.

According to Conexis data, gross revenues for the first half of 2022 fell 7.7% in real terms compared to the average of the last five years.

During the first six months of 2022, the mobile segment reported 259 million accesses after adding 16.5 million during the last 12 months.

Mobile broadband, meanwhile, added 15.7 million new accesses in the same period, bringing the total to 234.2 million.
