Colombia formally requested the US to eliminate tourist visa requirement for its citizens

After learning that the United Kingdom (UK) will eliminate from November 9 the requirement of tourist visa for Colombians, this Tuesday, October 18, the Colombian ambassador to the US, Luis Gilberto Murillo, confirmed that a formal request was made to the US so that Colombians can visit that country without the need for a visa.

“Great news the decision of the UK to eliminate the tourist visa for Colombians (…) We already formalized a similar request to the US Government to eliminate this visa requirement,” Ambassador Luis Gilberto Murillo said through his Twitter account.

In another message, the ambassador said, “we hope that the proposal to not require a tourist visa for Colombians in the US will be a reality in the future.”

“It will strengthen the ties of the brotherhood of our peoples on equal terms and within the framework of our special strategic relationship that turned 200 years old”.

The decision was known days after the official visit to Colombia by the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, where he met with President Gustavo Petro.

On the other hand, it is worth mentioning that one of the issues both governments have committed is to make progress in solving the time problems that have arisen, after the coronavirus pandemic, at the time of obtaining the visa for the first time or renewing it.

Appointments are currently taking up to two years.
