Brazilian architect Isay Weinfeld signs new building in New York

Brazilian architect Isay Weinfeld lives in São Paulo, but his work takes him around the world to design private luxury residences, hospitality concepts, and commercial spaces.

Although each project has a distinct style, often inspired by the natural environment, his approach is always minimalist, clean, elegant, and combined with greenery, fusing tropical style and 1950s international modernism.

So in conceptualizing the new boutique condominium The Elisa in New York City at the intersection of the West Village, Chelsea, and Meatpacking District, Weinfeld wanted to bring his iconic style to life.

The first thing to notice is the multifaceted facade of classic red brick and stone slabs with lush greenery.

There are only 25 residences from one to three bedrooms, plus a four-bedroom penthouse. Prices range from US$1.45 million to US$5 million. The penthouse has not yet been disclosed.

The interiors are functional, with elegant European design finishes, warm organic tones, airy ceilings of almost three meters, and an oak floor.

Each residence is flooded with natural light thanks to the vast panoramic windows.

Other features include kitchens designed by Boffi, Pietra Serena stone islands, stainless steel countertops, custom oak cabinets, and high-end appliances by Miele and Sub-Zero.

The luxury doesn’t end there: the bathrooms are covered in sumptuous marble, and there are thermostatic showers. Some units even have outdoor space.

Although it is a boutique condo, many amenities include a 24-hour concierge every day of the week, a fitness center, a patio, and a rooftop oasis with landscaping, outdoor kitchens, and lounges for sunbathing.

“Elisa’s prime location at the convergence of the Meatpacking District, West Village, and Chelsea is unlike any other development in New York City,” says Bianca D’Alessio of Nest Seekers International, listing the property.

“With immediate access to three of the city’s most iconic and trendy neighborhoods, residents will have access to the best restaurants, stores, and nightlife right at their front door.

“Elisa’s boutique design enhances the intimacy and exclusivity of living in these neighborhoods, while the high-end European finishes offer simplicity and elegance indoors.”

Every finish and detail was thoughtfully designed and handpicked to match all the components while creating a “play of contrasts,” as Weinfeld put it.

Isay Weinfeld’s projects include the Jardim residential building along New York’s High Line, the Fasano Hotel in Brazil, the Four Seasons Hotel in the Dominican Republic, and more.

Imagining spaces like no other, his designs often include abstract art, natural materials, a neutral color palette, and unexpected shapes and styles.

The 11-story building was completed this year and is currently in the process of being sold.
