Guinean police invade the premises of the private radio station Galáxia de Pindjiguiti

On Monday, a group of Guinean police officers stormed the premises of the private radio station Galaxia de Pindjiguiti in Bissau to seek “satisfaction” over a published article, sources from the station and the journalists’ union said today.

According to the information, a journalist at the station had written a report expressing suspicions about a case related to drug trafficking in Guinea-Bissau, allegedly involving members of the Police Public Order Command (POP).

Following the article’s publication, a group of plainclothes police officers searched the station’s premises on Monday evening and in the early morning hours in search of the journalist who wrote the article, the source said.

The journalist did not show up for work today and is hiding in a place “far away from the police,” the station’s source said.

The president of the Union of Journalists and Media Technicians of Guinea-Bissau (Sinjotecs), Indira Correia Baldé, told Lusa that the union is “following the case” and is waiting for more information from the station before taking a position.

Baldé calls on the parties to the dispute, radio station Galáxia de Pindjiguiti and the management of the Public Order Police (POP), to resolve the dispute through dialogue.
