As speculated, former presidential candidate Rodolfo Hernandez resigned as a senator just two months after he assumed the position that corresponded to him as the second choice in those elections in which the now leftist president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, ended up winning.
On Tuesday, October 11, Hernandez officially presented his resignation from the seat, weeks after he declared that his presence in the Senate was like “having Messi as a goalkeeper”, which would confirm his intentions to run for governor of the department of Santander or mayor.
The so-called anti-corruption candidate unexpectedly made it to the second round of the elections, in which more than 10.6 million people bet on his speech against the Colombian political establishment.
According to the newspaper El Tiempo, Hernández is not particularly attracted to the legislative office and also does not feel comfortable living in Bogotá, where the Colombian Parliament operates.
