São Paulo Governor Rodrigo Garcia (PSDB, center-right) has declared that he will support President Jair Bolsonaro (PL, right) in the second round of the national elections.
The decision was made Tuesday (4) at a meeting in the city of São Paulo.
Garcia went to Congonhas airport in the capital São Paulo to speak with Bolsonaro, who thanked the SP governor and called him a “friend.”
According to the head of government, the partnership with Garcia will continue after the elections: “The government is not just one person, but several people.”
In the first round, São Paulo was one of the states where Jair Bolsonaro won the elections.
According to the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), the federal entity has the largest electoral college in Brazil, with 34,667,793 eligible voters.
In the city of São Paulo, the head of government received 12,239,989 votes – 47.71% of valid votes – compared to 10,490,032 votes (40.89% of valid votes) for former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
Overall, Bolsonaro emerged victorious in 12 states and the Federal District, while socialist da Silva won in 14 states.
