Child pornography lawsuits on the rise in Paraguay

On Monday, October 3, Paraguay’s Attorney General’s Office reported a significant increase in child pornography complaints over the last five years – with a 400% increase in 2021.

In 2018, 521 complaints were already registered in the landlocked South American country, 960 (2019), 915 (2020), and almost 2800 in 2021, “which is 400% more cases than in previous years,” the prosecutor’s office wrote on “Twitter.”

The regions with the most registered cases of child pornography were Asunción, Central, Alto Paraná, and Cordillera.

By August 2022, the Prosecutor’s Office had received 1390 reports of child pornography, with May being the month with the most reports (222).

According to local media, reports included possession, distribution, production, and downloading of child pornography and possession of sexual images or other material related to sexual abuse of children.
