Ciro Gomes expresses his support for Lula da Silva in the runoff election in Brazil

Brazilian politician Ciro Gomes, fourth in the national elections, has expressed his support for former President Luis Inacio Lula da Silva (2003-2011) in light of the election in which he will face current President Jair Bolsonaro, but without quoting him directly.

Previously, the party to which Gomes belongs, of a progressive nature, had already announced that it would support Lula da Silva in the campaign that is now starting and that the team of the leader of the Workers’ Party (PT, left) accepted some of his proposals of the government program.

In his video, Gomes said that he has never been and will never be absent from the fight for Brazil and does not want to accept any position in an eventual future government.

The center-left politician based his campaign on handing out criticism equally to Lula da Silva and Bolsonaro, which did not please part of his party and his electorate, who understood that the priority should be to attack the current president.

Gomes obtained 3.5 million votes (3% of the total), the worst result of the four failed attempts to become president, falling behind even the center-right senator Simone Tebet, who until recently was an unknown to most Brazilians.

The runoff between Lula da Silva and Bolsonaro will take place on Oct. 30, and these days the two candidates are seeking to broaden their range of alliances and gather as much support as possible.
