Brazil: Civil Police used drone to arrest drug dealer in downtown Rio

Images captured by a drone helped the Civil Police to locate drug dealers in Largo de São Francisco da Prainha, in Praça Mauá, one of the tourist attractions in downtown Rio.

A man was arrested for trafficking on Monday, September 19.

Mateus de Sousa Silva was found on a staircase with 35 cocaine pellets, 17 small bags of marijuana, and money.

According to investigations, local drug dealers also received products stolen by drug addicts in exchange for drugs.

According to the police, the trafficking is commanded by a gang from Morro da Providência.

“The Civil Police’s action is essential to reduce this criminal cycle – not only drug trafficking but also property crimes.

“Addicted people end up stealing to exchange items directly for drugs,” explained police chief Vinicius Domingos.
