Cuba is committed to strengthening regional integration, said Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla during a meeting of Latin American and Caribbean foreign ministers held in New York before the general debate of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly.

“In a meeting with Latin American and Caribbean foreign ministers, we discussed issues of common interest.

“I reiterated Cuba’s commitment to continue contributing to the strengthening of CELAC [Community of Latin American and the Caribbean States] and the ACS [Association of Caribbean States], mechanisms with a valuable contribution to genuine regional integration,” the Cuban foreign minister stressed in his Twitter account.

The head of Cuban diplomacy assured that Latin America and the Caribbean have a lot to show the world and highlighted the proclamation of the Zone of Peace, adopted during the II Summit of CELAC held in Havana in January 2014, as “a source of pride to the peoples of the region.”

“It is an international reference and commits us to continue perfecting the forms of relations between our countries and the region with the rest of the world,” Rodríguez Parrilla emphasized on Twitter.

During the meeting of foreign ministers, the Cuban representative urged the international community to provide more assistance and cooperation to Haiti to contribute to its recovery, stability, and development, in an environment of peace, according to the country’s essential needs and with full respect for its sovereignty and the principle of non-intervention in internal affairs.

In this general debate of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly, to be held from September 20 to 26, various issues of international scope will be discussed, including education and sustainable development through the 2030 Agenda.
