Government approves donation of Brazilian Army armored vehicles to Uruguay

President Jair Bolsonaro (PL, right) on Thursday (15) approved a bill that authorizes donation of 21 armored vehicles from the Brazilian Army to Uruguay.

The South American country will receive 10 M-108 vehicles and 11 Urutu armored personnel carriers.

According to the Ministry of Defense, the donated vehicles are no longer operational for the Brazilian Army, as the company’s commander decommissioned them.

Uruguay agreed to the terms agreed by Brazil.

The ministry also stated that the measure would not harm Brazil’s ongoing missions, as the vehicles are more expensive to maintain.

In addition, the armored vehicles will be replaced with more modern versions than the donated vehicles, which will better meet the national defense needs.

The bill was drafted in 2021 and is authored by the Executive Branch.
