The Brazilian government has announced that it will simplify control measures for the entry of tourists related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to a decree published Tuesday in the Official Gazette of the Union and approved by the National Health Inspectorate (Anvisa), people entering the country as of today will only have to meet specific health requirements.
According to Anvisa, only a vaccination certificate or a COVID-19 test with a negative result is required to enter Brazil.
The relaxation of entry requirements for tourists follows the recommendation of the World Health Organization (WHO), which indicates that testing and quarantine measures should be reviewed periodically to ensure that they are lifted when they are no longer necessary.
Despite this measure, Anvisa reiterates the WHO’s warning that alternatives such as the COVID-19 test are needed for unvaccinated individuals.
Brazil is one of the last countries in Latin America to relax its entry restrictions.
Neighboring Argentina has already allowed unrestricted entry into the country for months.
