Enormous 46-kilogram tumor removed from woman’s body in Brazil

A media team removed a 46-kilogram tumor from a woman’s body in Brazil. The operation took place in a hospital in Rio de Janeiro and lasted about two hours.

According to the Daily Mail newspaper, the patient is 45 years old, 1.52 m tall, and weighed 150 kg at the time of the operation, which involved 14 doctors.

The woman had a huge mass in the abdominal area of her body and had been living with it for five years.

Dr. Glaucio Boechat, the surgeon who removed the tumor, shared photos on his Instagram account.

In an interview with Brazilian media outlet UOL, Boechat said, “It was the biggest tumor I’ve ever operated on, and certainly one of the biggest anyone has ever operated on.”

“It’s not every day that you get a tumor of this size,” said the Brazilian physician, who also mentioned that this is the first time he has dealt with a case of this size in his more than 20 years of experience.

In the next few days, a biopsy of the enormous mass will be performed to determine whether it is a malignant or benign tumor.

These tests will also shed light on where the disease comes from, with suspicion directed to the uterus.

“The entire hospital was mobilized to perform the procedure on this patient. She is doing well, stable, breathing without assistance, talking and eating,” Dr. Boechat said of the woman’s condition.

A total of 14 specialists were involved in the surgical procedure to remove the enormous mass.

In the next few days, tests will be performed to determine whether the tumor is malignant or benign.
