Gambling in Latin America

The whole world gambles, but each continent has its own traditions and laws. Therefore, the gambling market of each region is different. Below we look at the legal situation in Latin America.

Gambling laws in this region are outdated. Currently, the most advanced country in terms of gambling, for example, poker, slots, or online roulette games, is Argentina, followed by Colombia, Mexico, and Chile.

Brazil, on the other hand, is famous and infamous for having the largest illegal gambling market.

BOLIVIA

The region has all the conditions for a good casino operation; it has more than 10,000 slot machines. In addition, you can often find liberal laws. However, in these places, the rule usually applies: the number of gambling establishments depends on the size of the population.

But in Bolivia, however, this law does not apply; operators can open properties without restrictions. Nevertheless, there are countries where the gambling culture is higher, and the number of casinos is greater.

ARGENTINA

There are more than 100 gambling establishments in the country. Online casinos are also allowed. Depending on the area, casinos operate according to their own rules.

Only in the capital, Buenos Aires, gamblers will not find entertainment for themselves, as the legislation there does not allow gambling activities.

With Trilenium Casino de Tigre, this country is also home to the largest casino in the world. The facility has over 1,800 slot machines and many gaming tables.

COLOMBIA

The updated 2016 law does not restrict operators when obtaining licenses. Moreover, almost three years ago, the state legalized virtually all types of gambling, significantly contributing to the gambling business’s development.

In 2017, the first concession for an online gambling establishment was granted. Casinos and bingo have already brought big profits, and now the revenue from virtual establishments is added.

To date, 17 online operators are operating legally. The country is also increasing efforts to combat money laundering and shadow gambling.

CHILE

The impetus for the development of the gambling market in the country was a gambling exhibition. Casinos have now existed for a few years, generating significant tax revenues. Recently, lotteries have also started to gain popularity.

The country has introduced check lotteries, further developing the gambling market and allowing for better sales control.

MEXICO

In Mexico, the government is actively working on a bill to grant licenses only to online operators. Interestingly, players are increasingly opting for baccarat in addition to traditional gambling.

The government also wants to align the tax for physical casinos and online operators. In addition, the introduction of an excise tax is being discussed.

OTHER GAMBLING MARKETS

Countries such as Uruguay, Honduras, Paraguay, Peru, and Panama cannot boast new gambling solutions or active market development.

Honduras, Paraguay, and Uruguay do not allow online gambling.

However, at the same time, no one controls the gaming activities on the network, so the residents of these countries can freely use the services of illegal operators.

The laws in these countries have not been updated for a long time.

In Peru and Panama, on the other hand, online gambling is allowed. But people in these countries prefer to gamble mainly in offshore establishments.
