Colombia’s Air Force officially incorporates its two new Boeing 737-700/800s

The Colombian Air Force (FAC) has incorporated its two new Boeing 737-700/800, the FAC 1219 and FAC 1220.

The aircraft were officially presented in the last week of July as new means of transporting passengers and cargo -within the 811 Squadron- renewing and modernizing the FAC’s aeronautical equipment at the national level.

The 737s were acquired second-hand from the American company AAR Corp, under the purchase and supply contract No. DILOA-4700019477 for US$38 million (item 1502-0100-27-0-1502080-02-USO-02-01-01-01-002-003-VT).

ELECTRONIC SURVEILLANCE

The FAC also invested US$8.9 million purchasing a series of systems from Elbit Systems, with which it intends to equip its two 737s with electronic intelligence capabilities.

The purpose would be to have platforms to carry out intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance work, particularly on the border with Venezuela, where Russian intelligence personnel and equipment have been detected and identified as monitoring the Colombian Military Forces.
