RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The trade balance as of June 2022 in Paraguay registered a deficit of US$256 million due to the fall in soybean, electricity, and corn exports, the Paraguayan Central Bank informed.
This index was lower by US$1.5 billion compared to the trade surplus reported in the same period of 2021.
According to the financial entity’s bulletin, total exports in the sixth month reached US$6.9 billion, 0.4% lower than in June of the previous year.
On the other hand, registered exports represented 71.5% of the total and reached US$4.9 billion, 6.8 percentage points lower than the accumulated value as of June 2021.
The reduction in registered exports was mainly due to a contraction in soy grains, electric energy, and corn shipments.
Meanwhile, total imports in that period reached US$7.2 billion, 26.3% higher than the same period of the previous year.
The Central Bank of Paraguay indicated that there was a reduction of 7.4 percentage points in terms of volumes.
