Brazil totaled a record of 66.6 million defaulters in May

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – In May, Brazil reached 66.6 million defaulters, according to an indicator from Serasa Experian. The number is the highest since the beginning of the historical series that began in 2016.

The survey shows an increase of 4 million people in default compared to the same month last year.

The analysis by sector showed that the largest volume of debt is in the segment of banks and credit cards, with 28.2% of the total.

Next come basic bills, such as water, electricity, and gas, grouped in the utility area, with 22.7%. In third place are retail and financial, with 12.5% each.

Among Brazilian states, São Paulo has the highest number of defaulters (15.6 million), followed by Rio de Janeiro (6.7 million), Minas Gerais (6.3 million), Bahia (4.1 million), and Paraná (3.5 million).

Given this scenario, Serasa Experian reported that it currently offers 2.2 million deals with special conditions to settle debts for up to R$100 through Serasa Limpa Nome.

The agreements can be made with more than 100 companies, such as banks, finance companies, telephone companies, retail stores, universities, and securitization companies.
