Brazil’s President Bolsonaro: “We intend to recreate Industry and Trade”

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – On Wednesday, June 29, Brazil’s President Jair Bolsonaro (Liberal Party – PL) said he intends to recreate the Ministry of Industry and Trade if re-elected.

According to him, the appointment of the minister responsible for the portfolio will be from the business people.

“We have already separated [from the Ministry of Economy] the Employment and Social Security on one side, and we intend, as suggested in Fiemg [Federation of Industries of the State of Minas Gerais] two months ago, in case of reelection, to recreate Industry and Trade, whose minister would be indicated by the gentlemen, with the profile of the gentlemen to exactly have the freedom to work,” he said.

Bolsonaro made the statement during the event “Industry Dialogue with the pre-candidates to the Presidency of the Republic,” held by CNI (National Confederation of Industry), at the CICB (International Convention Center of Brazil), in Brasilia.

On May 26, Bolsonaro made the same promise during the solemn inauguration of Fiemg’s new board of directors.

The CNI promoted the “Industry Dialogue with the pre-candidates to the Presidency” event to discuss the 21 industry proposals already delivered to the pre-candidates.

Besides Bolsonaro, former minister Ciro Gomes (PDT) and senator Simone Tebet (MDB) participated in the event.

Former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) was invited, but did not attend. The mediation was done by Fernando Rodrigues, editorial director of Poder360.

During the meeting, the pre-candidates debated the studies gathered by the industry and presented their government proposals to increase the sector’s productivity and stimulate the sustainable growth of the Brazilian economy.
