Signs of rapprochement between Brazil and Venezuela

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – More than 20,000 Brazilians living in Venezuela can now count on commercial flights between the two countries. This news was announced by the government of Nicolás Maduro, along with a series of flexibilities implemented by a mission of the Brazil-Venezuela parliamentary group led by Senator Chico Rodrigues, president of the college, who recently visited the country.

Rodrigues, a Bolsonaro supporter, believes it is necessary to sensitize Brazilian society, the government, and Itamaraty to the strategic and economic importance of re-establishing diplomatic relations.

“We are only using a channel of dialogue to carry out parliamentary diplomacy,” says the deputy. Roraima State is expected to be one of the main beneficiaries of the resumption.

The parliamentarian says he has received a commitment to restore Venezuelan electricity supplies to Roraima, which will mean savings in the order of more than 1.5 billion reais for public coffers and Brazilian consumers.

Another advance was the announcement of the creation of an office in Caracas to deal with trade relations between the two countries. A document with the results of the visit will be delivered to Senate President Rodrigo Pacheco on Wednesday (29th).
