Paraguay and Taiwan celebrate 65 years of diplomatic relations

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The governments of Paraguay and the Republic of China (Taiwan) are celebrating 65 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, in a relationship characterized by cooperation and the search to increase trade.

The Taiwanese ambassador in the country, José Chih-Chen Han, highlighted the increase in trade in recent years. He emphasized that the objective is to increase investments and the arrival of more Paraguayan products in the Asian country.

In this regard, he cited the increase in beef exports and the visit of Taiwanese inspectors for an audit that will lead to the prompt authorization of pork for export.

As for other food products, he reported that some ten Paraguayan businessmen are currently at the Taipei Food Fair, seeking to expand the export offer. In the second half of the year, a delegation of Taiwanese investors is expected to visit the country, he added in an interview with Paraguay TV.

He mentioned that the appointment of the new Paraguayan ambassador in Taiwan, Carlos José Fleitas Rodríguez, will allow working on the promotion of investments and trade between both countries.

COOPERATION AND TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE

The ambassador referred to the latest cooperation projects developed with the Government of Paraguay.

One of the most important is the Health Information System (HIS) installation, which allows the exchange of information between hospitals and medical centers in the public sector.

This system has already been implemented in more than a hundred hospitals in the country, with technical assistance from Taiwan and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) support through the Digital Agenda Project.

Another major project is cooperation to strengthen micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs). In the last four years, a project was developed with the Ministry of Industry and Commerce (MIC) to strengthen the sector, to which new projects have been added to support women entrepreneurs and MSMEs in specific areas.
