RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Brazil’s cereal, oilseed, and legume production will reach 263 million tons this year, according to the latest IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics) forecasts.

That figure represents a record volume 3.8% higher than that obtained in 2021.

In 2022, some of the crops have benefited from favorable weather conditions, which allows for predicting a new historical level.

Soybeans remain the main crop in this group and the most important crop in exports.

Corn production could reach 112 million tons (+27.6% compared to 2021), and wheat production could reach 8.9 million (+13.6%).

In the case of soybeans, a 12.1% drop is expected compared to last year, to 118.6 million tons.

According to IBGE officials, “soybeans were planted at the right time, but it did not rain in the main producing states in November, December, and January. This greatly affected production.”

Despite the decline, soybeans remain the main crop in this group (45.1% of the total) and the most important in exports.
