Brazil’s trade balance shows surplus of US$4.9 billion in May

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL - Brazil's trade balance posted a surplus of US$4.9 billion in May, bringing the year-to-date balance to a positive US$25.1 billion.

The surplus in May is 44.7% lower than in the same month of 2021 when the result reached US$ 8.5 billion. The reason: an increase in imports.

A trade surplus is achieved when exports exceed the country's imports. The balance was above the expectations of financial market analysts. They expected a surplus of about US$4.7 billion for the month.
