Small companies account for 76% of new hires in Brazil in 2022

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Micro and small businesses accounted for 75.9% of formal hires from January to April. Out of 770,600 vacancies, 585,600 were opened in this category.

In 2022, the participation of medium and large companies in job creation fell to 18.8%, with 145,000 vacancies to be filled.

The data is included in the New General Cadastre of Employed and Unemployed of the Ministry of Economy. The system collects information on formal employment contracts month by month.

The trend in favor of small businesses was confirmed in April, the last month with available data. The country created 197 thousand vacancies in this period, 84.6% of which were in micro and small enterprises.

In April, there were 1,854,557 entries and 1,657,591 dismissals for a balance of 166.8 thousand.

The micro and small business services sector was the main driver of new job creation in the month, with a positive balance of 93,404. At the same time, trade and construction were practically tied in second and third place, with 28,420 and 25,267 jobs created, respectively.
