Rental car insurance in Brazil

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – It’s not uncommon for international travelers to rent cars in Brazil in order to get around the Amazon region easier and see all the sights. When it comes to rental vehicles, cheap auto insurance policies are usually offered at the check-out desk as you are picking up the car.

WHAT RENTAL CAR INSURANCE IS OFFERED IN BRAZIL

The different types of coverage at the rental car desks are:

  • Collision damage waiver (CDW) – This is basic liability car insurance for rental cars that waives any damage done to the rental in an accident. The damages that this coverage insures vary from rental company to rental company –some may not cover damages to windshields, tires, or headlights.
  • Super collision damage waiver (SCDW) – There are usually excess payments accompanying a claim filed by a rental car driver. A super collision damage waiver reduces that excess amount to nothing, so you don’t have to worry about it anymore.
  • Roadside assistance – This great add-on coverage provides reimbursement for roadside services when the rental car breaks down. This includes services like towing, fuel runs, and locksmiths for lockouts.
  • Personal accident insurance (PAI) – You also may want insurance for injuries that can result from a car accident. Rental personal accident insurance extends injury coverage to the driver and any passengers in the vehicle. Always inquire about rental car insurance at the checkout desk.
