Wheat sowing should intensify in Brazil, says study

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – According to a report from the Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics at the University of São Paulo (Cepea-USP), the sowing of wheat should intensify in Brazil.

The war between Russia and Ukraine has compromised grain production in Argentina, the largest supplier of wheat to Brazil, and has left Brazilian agents on alert.

In the field, sowing in northern Paraná is still below 1% of the area expected for the state this year. In Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul, the cultivation activities should begin in May.

In Argentina, the wheat area may total 6.5 million hectares in the 2022/23 harvest, representing a reduction of 200,000 hectares compared to the previous season.
