Chile announced the opening of “all border crossings”

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – After more than two years of the covid pandemic, the Chilean government announced the opening of “all border crossings” from May 1.

“The Ministry of Health of the Republic of Chile, to establish a new framework of action to respond to national and international epidemiological contingencies in a global context of lower contagions, has developed new measures for the control of national borders that will allow the opening of all land border crossings as of May 1, 2022,” announces the statement that the consul released on April 7.

This week there were claims from numerous Chilean residents in Argentina who demanded the opening of the border to Chilean President Boric.

“Beyond the operational measures that the coordinators of each border crossing agree to apply, the transit of people will be able to be carried out without restriction, adding:

  1. Mandatory declaration of travelers (COVID-19 application and self-report);
  2. Vaccination requirement at entry: Voluntary vaccination approval for access to a mobility pass (required for inter-regional travel on public transportation and admission to enclosed areas);
  3. Be randomly selected for a diagnostic test (PCR or antigen) at entry.

It clarifies that if the national and global sanitary situation worsens, “the Health authority has foreseen a progressive increase of control measures at the points of entry into the country, which will be duly communicated, not including – for the time being – the closing of the border crossings again”.

The announcement of the opening of the border crossings between Chile and Argentina comes three days after the Chilean president, Gabriel Boric, arrived in this country on the first official trip of his administration.

This week there were claims from numerous Chilean residents in Argentina who demanded the opening of the border to Boric. In Bariloche, they mobilized at the Consulate and demanded answers from Parodi as representative of the Chilean government in this city.
