Unemployment in Brazil was 11.2% in February

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The unemployment rate in Brazil reached 11.2% in the moving quarter from December 2021 to February this year. The rate is lower than in the quarter closed in November (11.6%) and in February last year (14.6%).

The data come from the National Continuous Household Sample and were released today (31) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).

The number of unemployed also decreased, reaching 12 million people in the quarter ending in February, 3.1% less than the previous quarter (which ended in November), or 389 thousand people less. Compared to the same quarter of the previous year (ending February 2021), the decrease was 19.5%, or 2.9 million fewer people.

The number of employed persons (95.2 million) remained stable compared to the previous quarter, but increased by 9.1% compared to the same quarter of the previous year.
