Brazil created 328,000 formal jobs in February

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Brazil closed the month of February 2022 with the creation of 328,507 formal jobs, according to the balance of the General Cadastre for Employed and Unemployed (New Caged), presented on March 29 by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security.

The February balance resulted from 2 million hirings and 1.7 million dismissals. According to the ministry, it was the best result for the month in the series started in 2010, second only to 2021, when the balance was 397,915 jobs.

According to the ministry’s executive secretary, Bruno Dalcolmo, this was the first time the monthly total of admissions exceeded 2 million vacancies, considering the series of declarations made on time. The secretary, however, pointed out that the result cannot be regarded as structural and that the trend is for a reduction in hiring.

The accumulated balance in 2022 was 478,862 formal, registered jobs, resulting from 3,818,888 new admissions and 3,340,026 dismissals.

“What we see here in February 2022 from the point of view of admissions is important to note. For the first time, we are above 2 million hires. Of course, it is not possible to say that it is something structural and will remain at this level,” he said. “We have already registered that it is natural to expect some deceleration compared to last year’s hiring level. It is a natural process; companies will not continue hiring at last year’s pace forever,” he added.

The numbers show that in February, the five groups of economic activity showed a positive balance, especially in the services sector, with the generation of 215,421 new jobs, distributed mainly in public administration, defense and social security, education, human health, and social services.

The general industry closed the month with 43,000 new jobs, especially in the transformation industry, which generated 38,575 jobs. Construction closed the month with 39,453 new jobs. In sequence come agriculture, livestock, forestry, fishing, and aquaculture, which generated 17,415 jobs, and commerce, with 13,219 jobs.

With the February result, the stock of active formal jobs stood at 41,157,217, a positive variation of 0.8% compared to the stock in the previous month. The accumulated balance in 2022 was 478,862 formal, registered jobs, resulting from 3,818,888 new admissions and 3,340,026 dismissals.
