RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Eductrade, a Spanish company specialized in the development of social infrastructure projects in the areas of health and education, together with BlackRock and the Mexican construction group GIA+A, has been awarded a US$297 million contract for the construction and management of four hospitals in Chile.

These are the Hospital de los Lagos, the Hospital de la Unión, the Hospital de Río Nuevo, and the Hospital de Puerto Varas, which will serve more than 290,000 people in the south of the country, the company said in a press release.

The contract will include the maintenance of the infrastructures and the equipment for 15 years, of more than 153,000 square meters destined to infrastructures and health care from the basic level to specialized care.

Another Spanish company, Puentes y Calzadas Grupo de Empresas, supported by the Chinese conglomerate CRBC (China Road and Bridge Corporation), also bid for the contract, according to the tender documents of the country’s Ministry of Public Works.

“The Red de Los Ríos-Los Lagos hospital complex is an endorsement of the company’s long track record in all areas of healthcare, through projects with a high social impact, which aim to improve the quality of care for citizens and promote universal access to healthcare for the population,” said Eductrade’s CEO, Francisco Mozos.

With this operation, the company strengthens its position in Latin America, where it has also recently been awarded four other hospital projects in Argentina, already underway, worth US$102 million.

Located in the Argentine province of Córdoba, Eductrade is currently working on constructing the Nueva Maternidad Hospital and the Río III Hospital, the expansion and remodeling of the Villa Dolores Regional Hospital, and the re-equipment and technological upgrading of the region’s public hospitals.

The company is also involved in constructing and equipping other hospitals and healthcare centers, including the Chinandega Departmental Hospital in Nicaragua and the El Alto Sur Hospital in Bolivia.
