RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Economist Intelligence Unit has published a new edition of its Global Democracy Index, which measures the quality of democracy in different countries around the world.
According to the report, Chile suffered a setback in its rating, going from a “full” democracy to a “poor” one.

Its measurement decreased from 6.09 points in 2019 to 5.83 points in 2020. It was not until 2019 that Chile reached the “full” democracy category but lost it again within a year.
The country suffered a setback in line with other Latin American countries, as five other countries in the region were downgraded.
Chile ranks third in Latin America, behind only Uruguay and Costa Rica.
It ranks Chile above other countries on the continent, such as Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, and Peru.
As for the countries with the worst ratings in the region, Venezuela, Cuba, and Nicaragua are the worst-rated countries.
