Tourism sector is recovering in Brazil, says minister

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Minister of Tourism, Gilson Machado, said today (7) that the tourism sector in Brazil is resuming job and income generation with the advance of vaccination against Covid-19 in the Brazilian population and the lower lethality of the Ômicron variant of the new coronavirus.

“Tourism has been coming for eight consecutive months with positive numbers. In November, we had a turnover with tourism in Brazil of R$14.7 (US$2.8) billion, in December, of R$19 (US$3.6) billion. Between October and the end of February, we will create, in tourism alone, 500,000 new signed jobs”, said the minister.

Gilson Machado received, on Monday, the title of Citizen of the State of Rio de Janeiro and the Tiradentes Medal, the highest honor given by the Legislative Assembly of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Alerj).
