Paraguay begins vaccination against Covid for children between 5 and 11 years old

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Government of Paraguay started a campaign to vaccinate at least 250,000 children between 5 and 11 years of age against Covid-19, informing the Ministry of Health.

Until next Wednesday, special days will be held to immunize the children who will receive CoronaVac vaccines, which are part of a batch of 500,000 doses donated by the Government of Brazil.

The immunization started with an act headed by the Minister of Public Health, Julio Borba, who invited parents to vaccinate their children.

“The time is now. According to his office, vaccinated children are safer children, which means calm parents, happy families, and a better Paraguay,” said Borba, according to a statement released by his office.

For her part, the vice-minister of health, Lida Sosa, told journalists that the vaccination of this population group is “the last link” in the country’s immunization plan.

Sosa said this process would provide “tranquility and security” for a safe return to the classroom, scheduled for February 21 in institutions of public education.

Paraguay, facing its third wave of covid-19, launched the vaccination process against the pandemic in February 2021.

According to the Ministry of Public Health and Social Welfare, Paraguay registered 6,340 new cases on Sunday, on a day in which there were no deaths due to the virus.

The country has 576,818 accumulated cases since the first positive case of covid-19 was registered on March 7, 2020, while the number of deaths remains at 17,231.
