Paraguay River level remains extremely low

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – According to the head of the Navigation unit of the Paraná River Paraguayan-Argentine Mixed Commission – COMIP Py – the level of the Paraguay River in Asuncion stood at -0.28 meters this morning.

The trend is downward and the values set the waterway category at an “extremely low level,” which affects the several productive chains that depend on the river.

As for the Paraná, the measurement in the port of Ayolas reached 0.15 meters and 0.30 meters in Ituzaingó. Levels there are fluctuating but still well below normal.

The shipping sector is experiencing a crisis, as due to the low water level, barges can only be loaded at 50% of their capacity and this leads to double costs.
