Brazilian Bia Haddad wins and advances to Australian Open quarterfinals in doubles

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Brazilian Bia Haddad Maia and the Kazakh Anna Danillina won by 2-1 the duo formed by the Spanish Aliona Bolsova and the Norwegian Ulrikke Eikeri in the early hours of this Sunday, January 23, Brasília time.

With this victory, the double qualified for the quarterfinals of the Australian Open. The match was 3/6 6/4 7/6 (10/4) in 2 hours and 35 minutes of play.

With this result, Haddad Maia becomes the first Brazilian to reach this stage of the tournament in the Open Tennis Era, since Maria Esther Bueno, who won the Australian Open in 1960.

The match for a place in the semifinals of the 2022 tournament will be played against Sweden’s Rebecca Petterson and Russia’s Anastasia Potapova. According to the Australian Open organizers, the match has not yet been scheduled.
