Brazil’s Pelé undergoes chemotherapy; tumors have spread all over body

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Soccer King Pelé on Thursday, January 20, returned to Albert Einstein Hospital in São Paulo to undergo chemotherapy after having a tumor removed from his colon in September.

According to ESPN, the former soccer player spent a few days in the hospital to undergo staging. The procedure serves to confirm the exact location and determine the extent of the cancer in the body, ascertaining if the disease has spread further.

At the moment Pelé has a tumor in his intestine, one in his liver, and another spreading to the lung, according to a report by ESPN. Due to his fragile condition, he continues to be closely monitored.
